Located 45 minutes north of New Orleans in the quaint town of Covington, the Southern Hotel’s vaunted history of hospitality began in 1907. Established as a physical and spiritual retreat where visitors would re-energize amidst the area’s cool breezes, piney woods and mineral springs, the hotel hosted guests for more than 50 years. Developers Lisa Condrey Ward, Joseph Ward, and Ricky and Gayle Condrey are now breathing new life into the historic property. Full-scale restoration of the 40+ room hotel is underway and is expected to open in late 2013. 

The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same

When the Southern Hotel opened in 1907, visitors were greeted with the latest amenities: hot water, electric lights and carpeting. Newspaper reports from the grand opening also noted the property’s fine china, linens and attentive service.

When the Southern Hotel reopens in 2013, its guests will relax in beautifully-appointed luxury rooms. The property will include meeting rooms, banquet facilities, Wi-Fi throughout, a fitness facility, plunge pool, restaurant and chic bar/lounge. Fine china and luxury linens will once again delight guests, along with personal service and attention to detail that makes for an unforgettable travel experience. 

Setting the Stage for a Renaissance

The local developers purchased the Southern Hotel in late 2011 with plans to reopen the property as a full-service hotel. They have brought Trapolin-Peer Architects on board to renovate the property into a modern, luxury oasis while preserving its historic and architectural significance.

In addition to its 42 guest rooms, the Southern Hotel will feature a 2,400-sq. ft. ballroom that can be configured for meetings, conferences and special events. A restaurant, upscale bar, spa treatment and fitness rooms round out the luxurious amenities.
